Do not be deceived: The secret to life, to marriage, and to any of the other human relationships, is the word of God applied correctly in your life, at every one of your considerations and every one of your decisions, as you live your everyday life (John 15:1-27):
"... 3 You are already clean because of the word I have spoken to you. 4 Remain in me, as I also remain in you. No branch can bear fruit by itself; it must remain in the vine. Neither can you bear fruit unless you remain in me. 5 “I am the vine; you are the branches. If you remain in me and I in you, you will bear much fruit; apart from me you can do nothing. 6 If you do not remain in me, you are like a branch that is thrown away and withers; such branches are picked up, thrown into the fire and burned. 7 If you remain in me and my words remain in you, ask whatever you wish, and it will be done for you. 8 This is to my Father’s glory, that you bear much fruit, showing yourselves to be my disciples ... 10 If you keep my commands, you will remain in my love, just as I have kept my Father’s commands and remain in his love ... 14 You are my friends if you do what I command ... (John 15:1-27 NIV)
"Jesus replied, “Anyone who loves me will obey my teaching. My Father will love them, and we will come to them and make our home with them. 24 Anyone who does not love me will not obey my teaching. These words you hear are not my own; they belong to the Father who sent me." (John 14:23-24 NIV)
PEACE only precipitates from the synergistic combination of LOVE and MERCY in every human community on the earth - as designed by God and commanded all human beings in the Bible. Peace only results when love and mercy are applied without discrimination and favoritism in all human situations. Seeking peace any other way is pretentiousness, and quickly gives way to disorderliness, violence and destruction.
We know that we love and are merciful only when we have
PEACE!
"Jesus answered, “I am the way and the truth and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me. 7 If you really know me, you will know my Father as well. From now on, you do know him and have seen him."" (John 14:6 NIV)
“I have much more to say to you, more than you can now bear. 13 But when he, the Spirit of truth, comes, he will guide you into all the truth. He will not speak on his own; he will speak only what he hears, and he will tell you what is yet to come. 14 He will glorify me because it is from me that he will receive what he will make known to you. 15 All that belongs to the Father is mine. That is why I said the Spirit will receive from me what he will make known to you.” (John 16:12-15 NIV)
"For, “Whoever would love life and see good days must keep their tongue from evil and their lips from deceitful speech. 11 They must turn from evil and do good; they must seek peace and pursue it. 12 For the eyes of the Lord are on the righteous and his ears are attentive to their prayer, but the face of the Lord is against those who do evil.” 13 Who is going to harm you if you are eager to do good? 14 But even if you should suffer for what is right, you are blessed. “Do not fear their threats; do not be frightened.” 15 But in your hearts revere Christ as Lord. Always be prepared to give an answer to everyone who asks you to give the reason for the hope that you have. But do this with gentleness and respect, 16 keeping a clear conscience, so that those who speak maliciously against your good behavior in Christ may be ashamed of their slander. 17 For it is better, if it is God’s will, to suffer for doing good than for doing evil. 18 For Christ also suffered once for sins, the righteous for the unrighteous, to bring you to God. He was put to death in the body but made alive in the Spirit. (1 Peter 3:10-18 NIV)
Obey God and end your confusion. And live life as you must:
A man’s image of God is the same as a woman’s image of God, which is trinity—the unity of the mind, the body, and the spirit!
But the woman’s likeness of God differs from the man’s likeness of God. The likeness of God is holiness. Holiness for men differs from holiness for women because of God’s different purposes for creating men as males; and women as females (Genesis 2:18-24):
Every man’s likeness of God is the likeness of Jesus Christ (the head of His body that is the church) - Ephesians 5:23.
And every woman’s likeness of God is the likeness of the church (which is the body of Christ) - 1 Peter 3:3-6 NIV - "Your beauty should not come from outward adornment, such as elaborate hairstyles and the wearing of gold jewelry or fine clothes. 4 Rather, it should be that of your inner self, the unfading beauty of a gentle and quiet spirit, which is of great worth in God’s sight. 5 For this is the way the holy women of the past who put their hope in God used to adorn themselves. They submitted themselves to their own husbands, 6 like Sarah, who obeyed Abraham and called him her lord. You are her daughters if you do what is right and do not give way to fear!"
God is not the author of the confusion in our understanding of the truths God had posited for us in the Bible. The author of the confusion in our understanding of man’s and woman’s likeness of God and other truths of the human life is our untamable desire to come up with our own narratives about life!
“If you fully obey the LORD your God and carefully follow all his commands I give you today, the LORD your God will set you high above all the nations on earth. 2 All these blessings will come on you and accompany you if you obey the LORD your God: 3 You will be blessed in the city and blessed in the country. 4 The fruit of your womb will be blessed, and the crops of your land and the young of your livestock—the calves of your herds and the lambs of your flocks. 5 Your basket and your kneading trough will be blessed. 6 You will be blessed when you come in and blessed when you go out. 7 The LORD will grant that the enemies who rise up against you will be defeated before you. They will come at you from one direction but flee from you in seven. 8 The LORD will send a blessing on your barns and on everything you put your hand to. The LORD your God will bless you in the land he is giving you. 9 The LORD will establish you as his holy people, as he promised you on oath, if you keep the commands of the LORD your God and walk in obedience to him. 10 Then all the peoples on earth will see that you are called by the name of the LORD, and they will fear you. 11 The LORD will grant you abundant prosperity—in the fruit of your womb, the young of your livestock and the crops of your ground—in the land he swore to your ancestors to give you. 12 The LORD will open the heavens, the storehouse of his bounty, to send rain on your land in season and to bless all the work of your hands. You will lend to many nations but will borrow from none. 13 The LORD will make you the head, not the tail. 15 However, if you do not obey the LORD your God and do not carefully follow all his commands and decrees I am giving you today, all these curses will come on you and overtake you: 16 You will be cursed in the city and cursed in the country. 17 Your basket and your kneading trough will be cursed. 18 The fruit of your womb will be cursed, and the crops of your land, and the calves of your herds and the lambs of your flocks. 19 You will be cursed when you come in and cursed when you go out. 20 The LORD will send on you curses, confusion and rebuke in everything you put your hand to, until you are destroyed and come to sudden ruin because of the evil you have done in forsaking him.[a] 21 The LORD will plague you with diseases until he has destroyed you from the land you are entering to possess. 22 The LORD will strike you with wasting disease, with fever and inflammation, with scorching heat and drought, with blight and mildew, which will plague you until you perish. 23 The sky over your head will be bronze, the ground beneath you iron. 24 The LORD will turn the rain of your country into dust and powder; it will come down from the skies until you are destroyed. 25 The LORD will cause you to be defeated before your enemies. You will come at them from one direction but flee from them in seven, and you will become a thing of horror to all the kingdoms on earth. 26 Your carcasses will be food for all the birds and the wild animals, and there will be no one to frighten them away. 27 The LORD will afflict you with the boils of Egypt and with tumors, festering sores and the itch, from which you cannot be cured. 28 The LORD will afflict you with madness, blindness and confusion of mind. 29 At midday you will grope about like a blind person in the dark. You will be unsuccessful in everything you do; day after day you will be oppressed and robbed, with no one to rescue you. 30 You will be pledged to be married to a woman, but another will take her and rape her. There you will worship other gods, gods of wood and stone. 37 You will become a thing of horror, a byword and an object of ridicule among all the peoples where the LORD will drive you. 38 You will sow much seed in the field but you will harvest little, because locusts will devour it. 39 You will plant vineyards and cultivate them but you will not drink the wine or gather the grapes, because worms will eat them. 40 You will have olive trees throughout your country but you will not use the oil, because the olives will drop off. 41 You will have sons and daughters but you will not keep them, because they will go into captivity. 42 Swarms of locusts will take over all your trees and the crops of your land. 43 The foreigners who reside among you will rise above you higher and higher, but you will sink lower and lower. 44 They will lend to you, but you will not lend to them. They will be the head, but you will be the tail. 45 All these curses will come on you. They will pursue you and overtake you until you are destroyed, because you did not obey the LORD your God and observe the commands and decrees he gave you. 46 They will be a sign and a wonder to you and your descendants forever. 47 Because you did not serve the LORD your God joyfully and gladly in the time of prosperity, 48 therefore in hunger and thirst, in nakedness and dire poverty, you will serve the enemies the LORD sends against you. He will put an iron yoke on your neck until he has destroyed you. 49 The LORD will bring a nation against you from far away, from the ends of the earth, like an eagle swooping down, a nation whose language you will not understand, 50 a fierce-looking nation without respect for the old or pity for the young. 51 They will devour the young of your livestock and the crops of your land until you are destroyed. They will leave you no grain, new wine or olive oil, nor any calves of your herds or lambs of your flocks until you are ruined. 52 They will lay siege to all the cities throughout your land until the high fortified walls in which you trust fall down. They will besiege all the cities throughout the land the LORD your God is giving you. 53 Because of the suffering your enemy will inflict on you during the siege, you will eat the fruit of the womb, the flesh of the sons and daughters the LORD your God has given you. 54 Even the most gentle and sensitive man among you will have no compassion on his own brother or the wife he loves or his surviving children, 55 and he will not give to one of them any of the flesh of his children that he is eating. It will be all he has left because of the suffering your enemy will inflict on you during the siege of all your cities. 56 The most gentle and sensitive woman among you—so sensitive and gentle that she would not venture to touch the ground with the sole of her foot—will begrudge the husband she loves and her own son or daughter 57 the afterbirth from her womb and the children she bears. For in her dire need she intends to eat them secretly because of the suffering your enemy will inflict on you during the siege of your cities. 58 If you do not carefully follow all the words of this law, which are written in this book, and do not revere this glorious and awesome name—the LORD your God— 59 the LORD will send fearful plagues on you and your descendants, harsh and prolonged disasters, and severe and lingering illnesses. 60 He will bring on you all the diseases of Egypt that you dreaded, and they will cling to you. 61 The LORD will also bring on you every kind of sickness and disaster not recorded in this Book of the Law, until you are destroyed. 62 You who were as numerous as the stars in the sky will be left but few in number, because you did not obey the LORD your God. 63 Just as it pleased the LORD to make you prosper and increase in number, so it will please him to ruin and destroy you. You will be uprooted from the land you are entering to possess. 64 Then the LORD will scatter you among all nations, from one end of the earth to the other. There you will worship other gods—gods of wood and stone, which neither you nor your ancestors have known. 65 Among those nations you will find no repose, no resting place for the sole of your foot. There the LORD will give you an anxious mind, eyes weary with longing, and a despairing heart. 66 You will live in constant suspense, filled with dread both night and day, never sure of your life. 67 In the morning you will say, “If only it were evening!” and in the evening, “If only it were morning!”—because of the terror that will fill your hearts and the sights that your eyes will see. 68 The LORD will send you back in ships to Egypt on a journey I said you should never make again. There you will offer yourselves for sale to your enemies as male and female slaves, but no one will buy you.
We all know whether we are males or females!
We must therefore, each, begin to train seriously as the man or the woman God had created us - instead of continuing with our destructive focus on careers and wealth, which continually pitch us against our spouses - Luke 12:15 NIV - "Then he said to them, “Watch out! Be on your guard against all kinds of greed; life does not consist in an abundance of possessions.”
You become proficient in whatever you train on: You cannot train to be a lawyer and become proficient in curing diseases.
Train yourself on becoming the husband or the wife God had created you to be. YOUR SALVATION, YOUR LIFE, YOUR JOY AND YOUR HAPPINESS ALL DEPEND ON BEING THE HUSBAND OR THE WIFE GOD HAD CREATED YOU TO BE!
If you are a WOMAN, God had created you, to first and foremost be a WIFE, and not whatever you do as a profession (Genesis 2:23); (John 15:27); (Mark 8:36)' (1 Timothy 2:11-15); (1 Corinthians 14:34-38); (Genesis 3:16 - "Your desire shall be for your husband and he shall rule over you" should adequately convince every woman that she was created by God to be a wife to her husband; and not the successful professional she is spending all her time, energy, and money to become or remain).
And if you are a MAN, God had created you, to first and foremost be a HUSBAND and the leader and teacher of your wife, and not whatever you do as a profession, so get going (Genesis 2:24); (John 15:27); (John 21 NIV - "Feed my lambs;" "Take care of my sheep;" "Feed my sheep;" and "You must follow me").
Every man and woman must determine early in their life to become the man, or the woman, God had created them to be, so they can become successful at it, and with the life they live, fearlessly and ceaselessly testify for God against Satan and all wickedness; and receive Christ's crown of life!
Matthew 6:19-34 NIV - “Do not store up for yourselves treasures on earth, where moths and vermin destroy, and where thieves break in and steal. 20 But store up for yourselves treasures in heaven, where moths and vermin do not destroy, and where thieves do not break in and steal. 21 For where your treasure is, there your heart will be also. 22 “The eye is the lamp of the body. If your eyes are healthy,[c] your whole body will be full of light. 23 But if your eyes are unhealthy,[d] your whole body will be full of darkness. If then the light within you is darkness, how great is that darkness! 24 “No one can serve two masters. Either you will hate the one and love the other, or you will be devoted to the one and despise the other. You cannot serve both God and money. Do Not Worry 25 “Therefore I tell you, do not worry about your life, what you will eat or drink; or about your body, what you will wear. Is not life more than food, and the body more than clothes? 26 Look at the birds of the air; they do not sow or reap or store away in barns, and yet your heavenly Father feeds them. Are you not much more valuable than they? 27 Can any one of you by worrying add a single hour to your life[e]? 28 “And why do you worry about clothes? See how the flowers of the field grow. They do not labor or spin. 29 Yet I tell you that not even Solomon in all his splendor was dressed like one of these. 30 If that is how God clothes the grass of the field, which is here today and tomorrow is thrown into the fire, will he not much more clothe you—you of little faith? 31 So do not worry, saying, ‘What shall we eat?’ or ‘What shall we drink?’ or ‘What shall we wear?’ 32 For the pagans run after all these things, and your heavenly Father knows that you need them. 33 But seek first his kingdom and his righteousness, and all these things will be given to you as well. 34 Therefore do not worry about tomorrow, for tomorrow will worry about itself. Each day has enough trouble of its own.
Traditional cultures around the world understand that every man was made by God to be a husband; and that every woman was made by God to be a wife. So, the cultures begin early to prepare their youths for those naturally fundamental roles. But blinded by our quest for civilization, we abandon the word of God and continue to pierce ourselves by making careers and wealth front and center in our lives.
Here is the Truth of Marriage!
God had designed every man to be the spiritual leader and teacher of his wife (and household):
"Women should remain silent in the churches. They are not allowed to speak, but must be in submission, as the law says. 35 If they want to inquire about something, they should ask their own husbands at home; for it is disgraceful for a woman to speak in the church.
36 Or did the word of God originate with you? Or are you the only people it has reached? 37 If anyone thinks they are a prophet or otherwise gifted by the Spirit, let them acknowledge that what I am writing to you is the Lord’s command. 38 But if anyone ignores this, they will themselves be ignored." (1 Corinthians 14:34-38 NIV)
God had designed every woman to fully submit to the leadership of her husband in all things:
"Wives, submit yourselves to your own husbands as you do to the Lord. 23 For the husband is the head of the wife as Christ is the head of the church, his body, of which he is the Savior. 24 Now as the church submits to Christ, so also wives should submit to their husbands in everything.
25 Husbands, love your wives, just as Christ loved the church and gave himself up for her 26 to make her holy, cleansing[b] her by the washing with water through the word, 27 and to present her to himself as a radiant church, without stain or wrinkle or any other blemish, but holy and blameless. 28 In this same way, husbands ought to love their wives as their own bodies. He who loves his wife loves himself. 29 After all, no one ever hated their own body, but they feed and care for their body, just as Christ does the church— 30 for we are members of his body. 31 “For this reason a man will leave his father and mother and be united to his wife, and the two will become one flesh.”[c] 32 This is a profound mystery—but I am talking about Christ and the church. 33 However, each one of you also must love his wife as he loves himself, and the wife must respect her husband." (Ephesians 5:25-33 NIV)
Every woman was designed by God to flex as necessary, to always accommodate her husband:
"A wife of noble character who can find? She is worth far more than rubies. 11 Her husband has full confidence in her and lacks nothing of value. 12 She brings him good, not harm, all the days of her life." (Proverbs 31:10-31 NIV)
"Now there was a famine in the land, and Abram went down to Egypt to live there for a while because the famine was severe. 11 As he was about to enter Egypt, he said to his wife Sarai, “I know what a beautiful woman you are. 12 When the Egyptians see you, they will say, ‘This is his wife.’ Then they will kill me but will let you live. 13 Say you are my sister, so that I will be treated well for your sake and my life will be spared because of you.” (Genesis 12:10-13 NIV)
“Why then,” they asked, “did Moses command that a man give his wife a certificate of divorce and send her away?”
8 Jesus replied, “Moses permitted you to divorce your wives because your hearts were hard. But it was not this way from the beginning. 9 I tell you that anyone who divorces his wife, except for sexual immorality, and marries another woman commits adultery.”
10 The disciples said to him, “If this is the situation between a husband and wife, it is better not to marry.”
11 Jesus replied, “Not everyone can accept this word, but only those to whom it has been given. 12 For there are eunuchs who were born that way, and there are eunuchs who have been made eunuchs by others—and there are those who choose to live like eunuchs for the sake of the kingdom of heaven. The one who can accept this should accept it.” (Matthew 19:7-12 NIV)
1 Corinthians 7:1-40 NIV - "Now for the matters you wrote about: “It is good for a man not to have sexual relations with a woman.” 2 But since sexual immorality is occurring, each man should have sexual relations with his own wife, and each woman with her own husband. 3 The husband should fulfill his marital duty to his wife, and likewise the wife to her husband. 4 The wife does not have authority over her own body but yields it to her husband. In the same way, the husband does not have authority over his own body but yields it to his wife. 5 Do not deprive each other except perhaps by mutual consent and for a time, so that you may devote yourselves to prayer. Then come together again so that Satan will not tempt you because of your lack of self-control. 6 I say this as a concession, not as a command. 7 I wish that all of you were as I am. But each of you has your own gift from God; one has this gift, another has that.
8 Now to the unmarried and the widows I say: It is good for them to stay unmarried, as I do. 9 But if they cannot control themselves, they should marry, for it is better to marry than to burn with passion.
28 But if you do marry, you have not sinned; and if a virgin marries, she has not sinned. But those who marry will face many troubles in this life, and I want to spare you this.
Marriage is God's and God's alone (Matthew 19:6)!
God created marriage for human salvation: all human beings, timid and civilized; religious and irreligious; learned and illiterate; simple and sophisticated:
“Haven’t you read,” he replied, “that at the beginning the Creator ‘made them male and female,’ 5 and said, ‘For this reason a man will leave his father and mother and be united to his wife, and the two will become one flesh’[b]? 6 So they are no longer two, but one flesh. Therefore what God has joined together, let no one separate.” (Matthew 19:4-6 NIV)
“You will be hated by everyone because of me, but the one who stands firm to the end will be saved.” (Matthew 10:22 NIV)
“Be completely humble and gentle; be patient, bearing with one another in love. 3 Make every effort to keep the unity of the Spirit through the bond of peace.”
15 Instead, speaking the truth in love, we will grow to become in every respect the mature body of him who is the head, that is, Christ. 16 From him the whole body, joined and held together by every supporting ligament, grows and builds itself up in love, as each part does its work.
17 So I tell you this, and insist on it in the Lord, that you must no longer live as the Gentiles do, in the futility of their thinking. 18 They are darkened in their understanding and separated from the life of God because of the ignorance that is in them due to the hardening of their hearts. 19 Having lost all sensitivity, they have given themselves over to sensuality so as to indulge in every kind of impurity, and they are full of greed.
20 That, however, is not the way of life you learned 21 when you heard about Christ and were taught in him in accordance with the truth that is in Jesus. 22 You were taught, with regard to your former way of life, to put off your old self, which is being corrupted by its deceitful desires; 23 to be made new in the attitude of your minds; 24 and to put on the new self, created to be like God in true righteousness and holiness.” (Ephesians 4:2-3,15-24 NIV)
“Be careful,” Jesus said to them. “Be on your guard against the yeast of the Pharisees and Sadducees.”

Trust in the Lord with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding;

Do not conflate the laws of your land with the Law of God which governs your entire existence: Give to Caesar what belongs to Caesar and to God what belongs to God. Caesar never overrules God because God made Caesar and his power!

Relationship! Relationship!! Relationship!!!
There is nothing to life outside of relationships. That is the reason why every one of us must look at life through Jesus Christ's tree-and-branches analogy of John Chapter 15; the body-and-body-parts analogy of 1 Corinthians Chapter 12; the salt-and-light revelation of Matthew 5:13-16; and all the supporting scriptures, like Galatians 6:2; Ephesians 2:10; Acts 17:28; Matthew 11:27-30; etc.

This is a space rack, shaped like the green cube diamond. Each life space rack contains 24 life realms, so also does each death space rack. Remember that life and death has no fellowship with each other, and so never mix.
Spirits are specialized independent circuitries of life who dedicatedly serve God's purposes everywhere on the earth and throughout the universe, within the overall circuitry of Life that is Jesus Christ.
These are the realms of death in the microstructures of space, as described in Revelation 20:13.
Relationship is not about being related, which is the reason why our most important relationships were handed down to us by God. Relationship is all about relating to one another, which takes careful thoughts, hard work and a willing heart!
Bringing people into relationships (as in parents and their children, siblings, and as in other family relationships), is God, assigning specific roles and clear responsibilities to each family member. And as we each become of age, the hard work begins, of relating to those we are in the various relationships with!
We grow and make each of our relationships profitable, if we play our respective God-assigned roles, and carry out our God-assigned responsibilities in the respective roles. When we step out of our role, and walk away from our responsibilities in any relationship, we fail, not only the person or people we are in that relationship with, but also God, who is counting on our keeping the family bond strong, to allow unimpeded access (Ephesians 4:30) to the Current of Life that is the Holy Spirit of God, who, in real time (Acts 17:28); etc., services all families on the earth, to keep each family alive and alight!
Where we belong on the tree that is the entire human community on the earth (God's Electrolysis of Life), and who we must relate to (to keep the chain of life secured and safe) is chosen for each of us by God. Who feeds into us and who we feed into, are also decided for each of us by God, in accordance with His eternal purpose. And the angels of God are all watching as this great mystery of God unfolds, in the lives we all live on the earth: "the church" (Ephesians 3:10-11 NIV)

Your marriage is the holiest congregational church in the whole world. Keep it that way. Otherwise, you will bring many troubles over your own head. Jesus Christ is not only the originator of your marriage and all the other marriages across the world, He is also the final destination of your marriage and all the other marriages across the world. Marriage is His, and can never be taken away from Him!
Keep all outside influences away from your marriage if you want to be successful in marriage, and in life. All the other human relationships on the earth were designed by God to support and strengthen marriages; not take away from marriages! Creating just one man and one woman at the very beginning, was God demonstrating to the angels and human beings of all generations, that a man and a woman in marriage must remain focused on each other, forsaking all meddling and distractions from their other relationships. Anyone who sticks to their God-assigned role and responsibilities in their marriage, had fulfilled God's objective for their life, and so, had won the crown of life!
The bond between a man and a woman that are married to each other is the strongest ionic bond ever made by God, which is the reason why the two had become one and inseparable forever. And the angels of God are closely watching marriages across the world, to understand God's manifold wisdom in yoking marriage to His Son Jesus Christ (Ephesians 3:10-11). The bond between every two people in every other human relationship, is a covalent bond of varying strengths, designed by God to keep people together as necessary, and break apart at the right time in each person's life, to allow each person to enter their own ionic bond that is marriage.
Our blind competitions and violent destruction of our rivals, have put us on a path we cannot recover from, unless we, one by one, realize that there will be no one standing by the time it is all over, and start working together with those we are in relationships with, and those they are in relationships with. We must do relationships right, or all perish!
And we do not have forever to do so, because none of us lives forever! we are each here for a while. And then, we are gone with our accomplishments or failures - leaving a world of hurt and suffering for the ones we leave behind:
"And the Lord passed by before him, and proclaimed, The Lord, The Lord God, merciful and gracious, longsuffering, and abundant in goodness and truth,
7 Keeping mercy for thousands, forgiving iniquity and transgression and sin, and that will by no means clear the guilty; visiting the iniquity of the fathers upon the children, and upon the children's children, unto the third and to the fourth generation" (Exodus 34:6-7 KJV)
The only thing any of us needs to do to change our current destructive course, is to look around us at the people we relate to everyday, and begin to treat them as God had purposed for us to treat the people that we are in various relationships with:
"As a prisoner for the Lord, then, I urge you to live a life worthy of the calling you have received. 2 Be completely humble and gentle; be patient, bearing with one another in love. 3 Make every effort to keep the unity of the Spirit through the bond of peace. 4 There is one body and one Spirit, just as you were called to one hope when you were called; 5 one Lord, one faith, one baptism; 6 one God and Father of all, who is over all and through all and in all.
7 But to each one of us grace has been given as Christ apportioned it. 8 This is why it says: “When he ascended on high, he took many captives and gave gifts to his people.” 9 (What does “he ascended” mean except that he also descended to the lower, earthly regions? 10 He who descended is the very one who ascended higher than all the heavens, in order to fill the whole universe.)
11 So Christ himself gave the apostles, the prophets, the evangelists, the pastors and teachers, 12 to equip his people for works of service, so that the body of Christ may be built up 13 until we all reach unity in the faith and in the knowledge of the Son of God and become mature, attaining to the whole measure of the fullness of Christ.
14 Then we will no longer be infants, tossed back and forth by the waves, and blown here and there by every wind of teaching and by the cunning and craftiness of people in their deceitful scheming. 15 Instead, speaking the truth in love, we will grow to become in every respect the mature body of him who is the head, that is, Christ. 16 From him the whole body, joined and held together by every supporting ligament, grows and builds itself up in love, as each part does its work.
17 So I tell you this, and insist on it in the Lord, that you must no longer live as the Gentiles do, in the futility of their thinking. 18 They are darkened in their understanding and separated from the life of God because of the ignorance that is in them due to the hardening of their hearts. 19 Having lost all sensitivity, they have given themselves over to sensuality so as to indulge in every kind of impurity, and they are full of greed.
20 That, however, is not the way of life you learned 21 when you heard about Christ and were taught in him in accordance with the truth that is in Jesus. 22 You were taught, with regard to your former way of life, to put off your old self, which is being corrupted by its deceitful desires; 23 to be made new in the attitude of your minds; 24 and to put on the new self, created to be like God in true righteousness and holiness.
25 Therefore each of you must put off falsehood and speak truthfully to your neighbor, for we are all members of one body. 26 “In your anger do not sin”: Do not let the sun go down while you are still angry, 27 and do not give the devil a foothold. 28 Anyone who has been stealing must steal no longer, but must work, doing something useful with their own hands, that they may have something to share with those in need.
29 Do not let any unwholesome talk come out of your mouths, but only what is helpful for building others up according to their needs, that it may benefit those who listen. 30 And do not grieve the Holy Spirit of God, with whom you were sealed for the day of redemption. 31 Get rid of all bitterness, rage and anger, brawling and slander, along with every form of malice. 32 Be kind and compassionate to one another, forgiving each other, just as in Christ God forgave you.
